The Four Harmonious Friends is a Buddhist fable concerning the friendship and mutual assistance between a pheasant, a rabbit, a monkey and an elephant. The pheasant eats small parts of a seedling but as the tree grows the pheasant can no longer reach the parts it eats. The bird then asks the rabbit to help and stands on the rabbit's back. The rabbit can now eat from the floor and the pheasant can reach the leaves. This cycle of assistance continues when the tree grows furthur by climbing on the monkey's back and again by climbing on the elephant's.
The story is a Buddhist parable for how people should help one another and that if we work together we can all be fulfilled.
Each individual flag measures approx 16cm × 21cm, and the length of the bunting is 2m.
