Origin: Citronella originated in Sri Lanka and was widely used in China as traditional medicine for rheumatic pain. It was widely used in many cultures for a variety of purposes even keeping animals away from certain areas. Citronella oil is obtained from a scented grass that grows wild and cultivated in tropical areas.

Insect Repellent: Its most widespread use is as a very effective deterrent to many sorts of insects. Its best application is to dilute in any base oil and apply liberally to the skin. It can also be used as a deterrent for cats and can be found in garden preparations for this purpose. In order to be effective it needs to be applied every few days.
